My recent birthday

On the 20th of February, I turned 47 and February just seemed to fly by without me blogging about it. I'm still like a big kid when it comes to birthdays, Christmas and Easter but I get more of a kick out of it from the kid's reactions. They're able to write and draw cards, come up with ideas for gifts and it shows me how much love they have for me in their hearts.

The day fell on a Sunday so I had a nice relaxing day. The kids had gone shopping with Dad, who bought me a cookbook which was a recommendation from a foodie friend, Katrina Higham called "Serendip" by Peter Kuruvita, chef and co-owner of "The Flying Fish" in Sydney, Australia. A wonderful 'coffee table' style cookbook with a history of his Sri Lankan background, stories and pictures from his childhood and easy to follow, scrumptious Sri Lankan recipes. I'm waiting for the weather to get a bit cooler before I start getting into some of the lovely curries and spiced dishes.

My husband let the kids pick out a birthday cake and my daughter picked out this one which she said I would absolutely love! The candles are looking a little second hand. (Bit like me!)

My daughter drew me lots of pictures and cards and made a little book and my son made me a paper bead necklace at Kindy, which I wore out one day. They picked this card out for me. I'm not sure they realised the close association with a worn out, 47 year old Mum of a 6 and a 4 year old and a prehistoric dinosaur, but it was received with heart felt thanks and lots of love. Those kids of mine!
