My daughter competing in the long jump in last year’s school sport’s carnival

Today is the School Sport’s Carnival at my daughter’s school. Today is field events and next Friday will be track. She is reluctant to participate so her brother and I will be attending for encouragement.

I don’t know why she’s so upset and doesn’t want to participate. It’s not like they’re doing anything too strenuous. For Grade 1, there’s a few ball games like tunnel ball and “unders and overs” and maybe a miniature version of the high jump. Most exciting thing is that she’ll get to buy a treat from the tuckshop (or school canteen as its otherwise known as).

She’s got the physique to be really good at sports but lacks any motivation to compete, and she’s a little bit of a princess so wouldn’t want to over exert herself.
