Write on Wednesdays - Very Pleased to Meet You!

Write On Wednesdays

I bet I look like I feel. Tired, worn out, cold, lethargic, stressed but still full from a roast pork lunch out with my Mother and son today. Still wearing the 'suitable attire for an RSL Club', biscuit crumbs in the corner of my mouth leftover from the Dora biscuits I stole from the kids when they weren't looking. Well, they were on the floor anyway so that means it's up for grabs as far as I'm concerned.

There's nothing worse than a sick child, except maybe a sick Mum and a sick child, but having my boy home all week from Kindy with a really nasty cough has definitely taken it's toll. I don't begrudge him for being sick. I don't hate him for taking away my freedom and allowing me to get the house into some sort of order, catch up on a few recorded TV programs and do some baking. I really feel for him being sick and wish I could just click my fingers and make him well again.

I'm sitting here in silence, for now, while the kids are playing nicely together. Once the arguments start, I'll be talking in a nice calm voice, trying to reason with the kids and teach them how to come to some to kind of resolution but a few short minutes later, I'll be yelling at them to get into their rooms until I say they can get out. I hope that doesn't happen because they are quite cute when they play together. I hate the sound of my voice when I yell. It just doesn't come easy for me to yell as I've always been quite softly spoken all my life. After I've yelled I feel so guilty and hate the fact that I did it and apologise profusely to the kids. Have never raised my voice to my husband (or anyone else for that matter) so I don't know why I think it's okay to yell at the kids. Probably because I can.

To add to my feeling of tiredness after looking after a sick boy all week, I had a blood test recently and it revealed that I was extremely low in iron. You'd think after the 20 times I've been to the pharmacy this week that I'd remember more iron tablets, but oh no. I can't remember my own name let alone iron tablets. I'm last on the food chain in this house so iron tablets can wait. Another hit of coffee in a minute will get me through the 'witch's hour' which will commence in just over 30 minutes. Caffeine depletes the body of iron so I'm on a 'no win - no win' situation no matter which way I look at it.

Oh well. There it is. My comfortable, quiet time on the lap top, just before starting dinner, has come to an end and I have to get up from the comfy lounge chair to see to these kids. I knew it would be too good to last.

  1. Thanks for playing along with Write On Wednesdays, Anne. What is it with sick kids today though, everyone seems to be in the same icky, snotty boat. But that's winter for you, I guess. I love the sneaky stolen Dora biscuit, nice and cheeky, but you have to hide the evidence, Anne - I'm speaking as a well established goody thief! Take care of yourself too, the iron deficiecy thing makes you feel awful. Looking forward to you linking up next week. Gill xo

  2. Am about to go write mine (hopefully in peace, while my husband is bathing the kids). I hope your little one feels better soon.

(thanks for following my blog. We actually 'met' yesterday on Digital Parents. I passed along your details to the marketing person for the giveaway/review).

  3. You've done a great a job - especially after such a busy week! I find there is nothing quite as exhausting as taking care of sick children. Hope everything (and everyone)is all well again soon!

  4. Wow Anne, you've got to get yourself some iron! You sound so tired.

I am not a natural shouter either, but have become "shouty shouty mummy" as Miss A calls me. I have taken to apologising too when I do shout, which has it's benefits as she has begun to also apologise to me when she raises her voice.

Take care and get yourself well.

  5. I love your sense of humour! You sound so personable, I can't wait to read more of your writing!
I know what you mean about feeling that your needs come last on the list of priorities. I hope you've remembered to pick up those tablets!
