I thought I might give a brief overview of things you’re likely to find and things you probably won’t ever find me posting about here at Domesblissity.
You won’t find posts on Mother’s Day presents, Father’s Day presents, Valentine’s Day (well, not for a while yet). My Mother isn’t alive anymore, nor is my (ex) mother-in-law or any grandmothers. If the children want to make something for their Dad then I’ll help them but I won’t be getting all creative. No love in my life other than my children so maybe a special heart shaped cake on the day but here in Australia, we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day like it is done in the US.
You won’t find recipes for big family meals. There is only my two children and myself to cook for now. My daughter is THE fussiest eater in the world so I will usually give my children something different to what I eat. I still like to eat well so cook a one or two serving meal for myself. I do like to cook up bulk leftover vegetables or fruit for use in other dishes later on. I do also give my son what I’m eating sometimes as he likes most things I eat.
You will find a lot of baking and meal recipes which are based on basic pantry staples and seasonal produce. You will also find a feature called “Mystery Ingredient Monday” where I go through the pantry, fridge or freezer and see what needs using up and offer different ways to use it.
Everything Thursday, I hold a linky party called “Thriving on Thursdays” when I ask you, my readers, to link up as many or as little of YOUR recipes, crafts, financial, makeup or DIY tips and posts. The following Thursday I will feature my favourite 3 food related posts and my favourite 3 non food related posts, eg DIY project or craft etc. Come Easter or Christmas time, I might feature those theme related posts linked up in a special feature post for say 4 weeks prior to the event.
You won’t find interior design photos of my home. After 8 years of letting things go in the house, since the children arrived and having to do everything myself, with the home and the children, I’ve got a lot to do to get my home up to a standard I was used to. In a way, I’m glad I’m not as ‘anal’ as I was but it certainly needs a lot of work. I have only ever done some minor furniture refurbishing but hope to do more this year.
I have always been one who sews and crafts a lot but haven’t explored those creative pursuits these last couple of years for various reasons, the main one being time. When my daughter was born, I sewed all of her outfits and crocheted matching caps, vests and jackets. Why is it when you think they’re older, you’ll have more time for it and I’m the opposite at the moment. I’ll get back to it once everything is settled in my personal life and I’ll share what I’m up to with you.
My blog is all about being frugal, thrifty, making do and trying not to spend too much on the everyday things. I do like the finer things in life and will sacrifice in other ways just so I can enjoy those things.
If there’s anything you’d like to see more of, drop me a line. If you’re having trouble with a recipe or an ingredient, let me know. I might be able to help. I’m not expert. Just a half decent home cook I suppose with a lot of practice and good teachers, my Mum and my Nanna.
I like things just the way they are! You are right that it feels like you will have more time when the kids get older but you sure don't!
So you mean to say your a real person!? Yea! I always like reading honest blogs rather than perfect ones.
Anne I love your blog, your features, I just love the way you are. Perhaps it's because I try to live much the same way as you. We make do, we budget but you know what we never miss out and I always see that is the same with yourself and kids. I truly do to think it's all that hard to live with a thrifty mindset especially in the kitchen, if you know how to cook and have a fair idea of flavours that go together and compliment one another you're on the home stretch. Gee just last night I invented my own sausage casserole and it was yum and so filling. I have so many of your recipes saved and bookmarked, you have such a knack for creating new recipes or revamping old ones. I can't say that there is anything I'd like to see more or less of, as I already find you so wonderful and reliable.
Oh but hold on I do have and idea of something I'd love to see you post about, but really it's just something I'd like some help on. I'll inbox you. X
Anne, your blog is amazing. I like everything you post about…you are so real and genuine! You are truly an inspiration to me!
I think you are fabulous just the way you are Anne. I have had to live on a tight budget in the past and it is challenging. I love your recipes as they are always yummy and simple to make. Just what I like.
I have read your blog for a while now and know the past little while has been far from easy for you, yet you keep bobbing along. I hope things go well for you and your family in 2013 Anne, I really do.
Virtual hug… did you feel it. I hope you can feel the support from all of us. We love you and all of your warts and whatever you got we'll take it … especially if it helps get dinner on the table. You're a survivor… keep going girl.
Sounds like my cup of tea xxx
I sense that this post is about you clarifying where you are at too. You have been through so much this past couple of years. You are totally my cup of tea Anne. Real, practical, wise. Much love to you, it will get better. xxxx
