We all have our guilty pleasures and guess what one of mine is? Right! Watching trashy, mindless, cringeworthy reality TV and The Bachelor franchise is at the top of my list. I love it. Not for the handsome dudes (okay, they make it watchable) nor the passion and so called ‘romance’ but for the cringeworthy, uncomfortable, embarassing situations these seemingly intelligent men and women put themselves through to find love.
Australia has finally joined in on yet another program from the US and started up their own version, this time the ‘bachelor’ version with Tim Robards, a chiropractor from Sydney, New South Wales as the ‘catch’. In the first episode, there was plenty of ‘bitchy’ and jealous behaviour from the women, all wanting a slice of the action.
There are some really attractive girls in this lot of bevy beauties including a doctor, marketing consultants, accountants, flight attendant, lawyer, psychologist etc etc so they all must have a brain. I really don’t know what makes women (or men) want to go on these shows. Is it the last straw for them to find love? Is it all about fame and glory and being on TV? Yes, I think so. How could you really get to know someone when you ‘might’ get a date with the bachelor or you ‘might’ get to talk to him for 5 minutes.
There have been a couple of successes in hooking people up including two of my favourites from the US show, Ashley Herbert and JP Rosenbaum but they are few and far between.
Nonetheless, I’ll be hooked each week seeing the girls fight for attention and the ultimate rose. I can’t wait for the spin off series The Bachelorette with the loser from this show. Just imagine the gorgeous Australian guys lining up for her love. No, I can’t either.
