I’m a huge fan of quilts but I’ve never made one. I have a few that were made for me from my aunt and one of these days I will get around to making one (you know, when the planets are aligned and I have my craft space organised) but I love looking at them. There’s something quite comforting about a quilt and the amount of works that’s gone in to making it.

A sewing store in my hometown holds an annual Quilting Extravaganza, which is free, so I decided to go on the weekend and check out all the lovely handiwork.

A good one for using up scraps.

An excellent example of machine quilting.

This small quilt was made entirely by hand, sewn and quilted. It was perfect.

A butcher bird Mum and her babies.

This quilt won overall champion. Just a snippet doesn’t do it justice. What’s more amazing is the machine quilting. If you check out the photo below, you’ll see that the lady quilted stars all over the quilt using a gold thread. Big ones and little ones and the stars are just perfect. It blew my mind.

I love crazy quilts and the embellishments people use.

This quilt was HUGE and made for a queen size bed, I think.

Besides being functional items to use on a bed, there was an entire section devoted to art work. This bush scene was just amazing and the leaves on the trees were all stitched with a machine and different pieces of fabric used for the rocks, water and trees. It was just fantastic and had so much work in it.
Besides the quilt show, they had other artwork displayed, plus patterns and fat quarters to purchase and quilting, embroidery and lace making groups who run classes on display. A nice way to spend an afternoon.
