You may recall we were married back on 12 September 2015 and both of us being great lovers of all types of music, it was imperative that we got our playlist for our rock music/vintage themed wedding just right. My husband is mainly a lover of heavy metal and me, classic rock (with a little heavy metal thrown in) but we didn’t want our wedding guests having to form a mosh pit so we kept it mellow and we were very happy with the music we put together. This playlist for a rock music / vintage themed wedding has that perfect blend of rock classics, retro hits and melodic heavy metal.
Bridal Processional
I’ve always loved Fleetwood Mac and, in particular Stevie Nicks, and when I was trying to think of a song that summed up the type of relationship my husband and I had “Songbird” was just perfect. Every time I listened to it before the wedding I’d be crying my eyes out. I cried when I walked up to him on the day too.
Signing the Register
Everyone loves a retro classic. “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon was a hit when I was just starting work and it must’ve been on the radio a few times when my husband and I were driving and we’d sing it to each other. It reminded us of how we started out as friends and then how our romance was a whirlwind and we couldn’t fight our feelings anymore.
After Signing the Register & First Kiss
It goes without saying, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder was the perfect classic hit to play after signing the register. It was upbeat and one of my all time favourite songs (I have many).
Reception Music
My husband is a huge fan of heavy metal and has many favourite bands. Bullet for My Valentine from the UK is one of those bands. We were surprised at just how many heavy metal bands did more quiet, slower songs and this acoustic version of their hit “Heart Burst Into Fire” fit in perfectly with our theme. There were plenty of other more classic rock hits plus a few ‘one hit wonders’ and songs from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. A few of my favourite Aussie rock songs and a couple latest pop songs that reminded me of when we first met were featured as well.
Here is a list of the other songs we had playing in the background during the ‘meet and greet’ and reception.

Bridal Waltz
We couldn’t have chosen a better song for our bridal waltz. Both the Pennywise version and the original Ben E. King mean so much to both of us. My husband is a huge fan of Pennywise and we saw them in concert a couple weeks after our wedding. We started off dancing slow and then rocked it out. It was so memorable and really does sum up how crazy and kooky we are.
Post Reception
I wasn’t sure if there’d be a lot of dancing being a lunch time wedding but I wanted to pick the tempo up on the music selection, just in case. I thought I’d get it started with a bit of Iggy Pop and “Real Wild Child”. There wasn’t any dancing but there was some great music playing in the background. I haven’t listed the few extra ‘latest hits’ I had selected for the kids.
