Since my daughter started school two years ago, I’ve got into the habit of popping a small note into her lunch box. The first time I did it, she couldn’t wait to tell me how excited she was to find it in her lunch box. It really makes their day.
If your child can’t read yet

My son starts school today and although he can’t read, I’m sure a simple “Eye Love Ewe (or U)” he’d get.
I can’t believe there are people selling them on the Internet. Good luck to them for trying to make a go of it but they are readily available from many sources online, DIY love notes or if you have Micrsoft Word (or Excel) you can customise your own with your child’s favourite characters or pictures. Create a table (or spreadsheet), insert the picture and type the words then print. These are some of my online favourites.
Free Printables
Gorgeous hand made notes from Fresh Picked Whimsy here and here.
These gorgeous pre-printed notes for children under 7 are so cute from Buttoned Up.
I love these cute, vintage style printables with a printable box to keep them all in from Rook No 17. These are for the child who can already read and write but they are just gorgeous.
These are just so much fun. Cute jokes (plus the answers) from my great friend Tonia at The Gunny Sack.
These are from “It’s Written On the Wall” For a free copy, click on this link and “Like” on Facebook. |
There really are so many available for free on the Internet by so many talented people. You could theme them for upcoming holidays like Australia Day, Valentine’s Day or Easter. Make your child’s day but remember. Don’t do it too often or they might just come to expect. (I’m only kidding. I’d do it every day if I remembered!) And don’t forget. There’s nothing wrong with a handwritten note on plain or pretty paper.
Luch box notes are a good way to use up all the stickers around the house too.
Love your ideas and places to go to get cute little cards. When my kids were young (we have 8) I too would pop a note in their lunch bag or box. But not everyday. Just occassionally. And they loved it too. I want to go to some of these sites. Thanks for sharing.

Cute idea. I used to do this to our now 25 year old son and now I can be found tucking notes in my husbands pant pockets or uniform that he will wear to work on any given day. Just a little note expressing my love, respect and gratefulness to him.
Hi Anne,
I think that's a great idea. I love notes and what a sweet way to let your kids know that you love them and are thinking about them 🙂 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂
Thanks so much for the feature, sweetie! I haven't done any lunch notes for awhile now so thanks for the reminder! Even though my kids are a little older they still enjoy a note in their lunchbox!
Notes in a lunch box are so cool! I also used to write notes on my kids banana peels! 😀
LOVE this!
I have been loving the idea of these for ages and couldn't wait for my daughter to start school so I could do it. Though she cant read yet so I will have to just do cute pictures I think. And I am thinking that I might just do them once a week, probably friday's because I'm not sure I could keep up with it every single day.
