We eat a lot of wraps and dishes using tortillas here at Domesblissity central and over the years I have made them from various recipes but have resorted to buying them, ready made just for the convenience. In 2015, I’ve decided I’m going back to basics and making everything from scratch again just like I used to when I had to. Sure, it is more convenient to buy them but I swear, there is no comparison to taste and they are dead easy to make. Even for someone who isn’t too good at rolling a small circle into a bigger circle.

There are quite a few recipes online and not that I tried them all but this one from The Cafe Sucre Farine had all the ingredients I had and it was easy. Get your hands in there and mix it up. Your hands are the best kitchen tool you can have.
Once you’ve mixed the dough, roll out onto a floured surface and cut into 16 equal (or not so equal looking at my photo) pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, flatten with your hand and allow to sit for about 15 minutes. You can then roll each piece out, as thin as possible, into a round shape (or close enough to it like I have) and you’re ready to cook them.
I used my frypan on the stove top but you could use a grill plate, the barbecue or the sandwich press. A light spray of oil and within a minute or until the surface starts to bubble, flip them over and you’re done. Wrap in a towel to keep warm or serve immediately. Any leftovers can be frozen and warmed in the microwave or oven.
With the 16 that I made, we had a meal of chicken and salad wraps, lunch for 2 a couple weeks later and there are still some in the freezer which could be used for wraps or even cut into pieces for tortilla chips. They had such a lovely flavour and so, so different to the store bought tortillas.
Use them for wraps, quesadillas, burritos, tacos, pizzas or tortilla chips. You could check out my post on 16 ways to use a tortilla and maybe find something new. Give yourself just an hour before dinner starts to give these a go. You won’t be disappointed.
