Yesterday was Australia Day, our national day where we celebrate the birth of our wonderful nation. In the past few years, it has passed me by as just another excuse to have a public holiday, while still remembering the significance of the day but without any celebration. That was until yesterday. A dear friend of mine invited the children and I around for a typical Australian tradition, a barbecue (or barbie as we like to call it).
We had snags (sausages), chops (lamb loin chops), steak and rissoles (hamburgers) plus the traditional salads and nibblies.
Throughout my life, I’ve always appreciated a nice glass of wine. In the past 10 years, I hadn’t given it much thought. The children were always my focus and I didn’t miss it, that was until I had the time to think

about it and enjoy a drink for the taste of it and for the celebration. I had a nice couple glasses of the fizzy stuff this Australia Day.

My boy slip slidin’ away.

The other thing us Aussies love to do is do anything by the water (well, most of us). If you can’t get to the water, we bring the water to you. My friend brought out the “Slip’n’Slide” and the kids had a ball sliding on it.
I’m glad to say that I can finally focus on significant events again and enjoy them without worry or angst. Life is so wonderful right now. Hope you all had a fantastic Australia Day!
