Here are 36 ways to serve vegetables you know your kids will eat. As you’re all probably aware, I’m one of two tuckshop convenors at my children’s school. Because of the new government initiative Smart Choices, we have to offer vegetables with most of the savoury dishes we create.
A bit of a hurdle because if the children are anything like mine, vegetables aren’t their most favourite food to eat. My very fussy daughter loves potato, only in chip form mind you but my son will eat most vegetables, with a little persuasion.
I’ve been searching the internet for ideas on how we can serve nutritious vegetable snacks to both the school children and my own children and I’m going to give some of these a go. Anything’s worth a try, right?
I recommend always offering children vegetables in their natural form but for a change, trying to add them into dishes you know your children will eat is a lot better option sometimes. Grated vegetables added to any meat or pulses are another way as is wrapping vegetables in pastry with or without meat. Some of these are darn right tasty and suitable for us grown ups too. I hope you find some inspiration.
Let me know if you have any further ideas on how to serve vegetables children will eat.

Yummy ideas! I love the cute snails and the light sabers are fantastic for May the 4th (Star Wars Day – today).
Hi Simone! Thanks for stopping by. Tomorrow our tuckshop is celebrating “May the Sith – Battle of the Fifth” (I am the tuckshop convenor and unfortunatley our tuckshop wasn’t open today). We’re having all sorts of yummy treats like Obi-Wan-Kebabies (fresh fruit on skewers) and Han-Solo-Burgers. It should be heaps of fun especially when “Darth Vader” makes an appearance. My son doesn’t know yet that I’ve smuggled in his Darth Vader mask and cape. It’s all a bit of fun for the kids. I’m sorry you had the problem with the popup box. I’ll see if I can try and fix it.

Great recipe ideas Anne. I’m often trying to think of ways to get my kids to eat more veges, particularly in their lunchboxes. I’ve never heard of tots. Thanks!
Hey Rachel. Thanks! Me too. I’m tired of putting the ‘token’ vegetables on the plate only to slide them into the bin. I’d much rather come up with something that they’d like to eat. Tots are just like our potato gems but making them yourself and adding extra vegies is a good substitute I reckon. Thanks for stopping by Rachel.

Seriously; I would chow down on every single one of those. Amazing (and beautiful photography). Now…just to convince the kids….
Ha Anna! Don’t I know it. I’ve found all of those recipes appetising as well. Convincing the kids is the hard part! Thanks for stopping by.

Great ideas. My kids are generally pretty good with eating their vegetables and take things like carrot sticks, cucumber stickers, cherry tomatoes etc to school or make a salad for themselves.
I got them to eat more veg at dinner by offer buffet or platter options. This way they have more of a choice (so they think) and they actually eat more veg than when done other ways.
Another favourite is a pot of chilli.
Thanks for the tips Kylie. I think I’ll always have a battle with my daughter. It’s a battle of wills with her. My son, on the other hand, is usually pretty good. Thanks for stopping by.
