26 ways with Vegemite

If you were born in Australia, there’s probably no doubt you’ve tried it, heard of it and either still love it or hate it. A lot of people in other countries can’t understand what we love about it. The thick, black, tar-like substance, with a salty, yeasty taste is one of the first foods we give our babies. It’s what we eat on toast before any other sandwich spread. It’s what you eat on bread or toast when there’s absolutely nothing left in the cupboard or fridge.  I’ve make Vegemite and Cheese scrolls but check out some of these other 26 ways with Vegemite.

What a fun and unusual round-up 🙂 I've never tasted Vegemite, though I did used to eat Marmite when i was growing up in England. I think the Vegemite cheese straws look delicious (assuming Vegemite tastes at least a little like Marmite)! I'm not sure what to make of putting it in desserts, but I'll reserve judgment until I try it – some day!

Every time I've heard that song by Men At Work I have wondered what the heck they were talkin' about…..now I know….I wonder If I can find it here in the U.S. ? I'll have to look for it.

I've never tried Vegemite and like Deana, I'm not sure that it is even available here in the US. But the recipes you linked up look delicious!

I've always wanted to try the pasta recipe.
Some of the other ones are a bit unusual and concerning lol.

I love vegemite just as much as the next person, but Vegemite cheesecake? Or macaroons? Cudoo's to the person that first made them though, that is one brave move.

Never though about cooking with it besides making scrolls etc. Will have to check out the vegemite chicken and lamb recipes!

    Thanks for linking up Anne.

Vegemite cheesecake sound just wrong LOL!
I like it best as just Vegemite with toast and lashings of butter. It is a little like marmite, but saltier and less of a sweet taste. For those that haven't tried it, when you do, be very sparing, I literally just have a scrape of it on my toast.
    The best hangover pick-me-up ever!

I agree with Mel above- first-timers, PLEASE just a light scraping on top of buttered toast for your first go!
Personally, I love to lather it all over toast in big heaps 🙂
This reminds me that my kindergarten class (preschool in some states I think? 6 yrs old anyway) was called "The Vegemites" and that tune was our theme song!
These are really interesting recipes Anne. But I still probably wouldn't touch most of them with a 10-foot pole, haha

Hello Anne! I realize this is an old post, but I follow you on Pinterest and LOVE just about everything I've made from your pins!

Growing up, we had a Maine Coon cat, who was long haired and therefore, had lots of digestive/hairball problems. We had to buy her some cat medicine that came in a tube. You basically smear it on their front paws and then they lick it off.

The first time I saw/tried Vegemite (in my early 20s, while in culinary school) I discovered it has the exact same consistency, color, and smell as aforementioned cat digestive medicine. I was a trooper and tried it, but I couldn't get the thought of cat medicine out of my mind. Ick. I've heard tons of people rave about how good it is, I wish I could have tried it before we had the cat! 🙂

oh Marzi, that is so funny. I don't think I would've tried it either if it reminded me of cat medicine either! LOL
