22 ways to use Granny Smith apples

22-ways-to-use-granny-smith-apples

You’ll always find some of these in my fridge because I can always count on my fussy daughter to eat them. She’ll eat bananas (without a spot of black on them) and she’ll eat things like kiwifruit or watermelon at dinner time but as for other things, we’re pretty limited. I always tend to overbuy and who knows how long they’ve been sitting in storage for. I’ve specified Granny Smith’s as they are a little more ‘tart’ than regular apples and excellent for cooking as they hold their shape well. They pair very well in savoury dishes but I’m not big on eating fruit with meat (other than maybe apple sauce with roast pork) but I’m going to push myself to try something savoury with them this week. Let’s have a look at some ways you can use them.

Goodness that's quite a list! I love Granny Smiths – any apple that is a bit tart is yum. My in-laws have an apple tree which is an old variety called a Pippin – you can never get them in the shops The fruit has a really crisp, tart flavour. I wait with anticipation every year for when the tree fruits!!

Anne, what a great roundup! I LOVE apples. They actually grow them in Ohio and they are in season in the fall (Aug-Oct) and they are amazing! I've got to try these recipes out!

That's quite the variety of ideas there. I just bought several Granny Smiths because they were on a good sale. I think we only have one left now, though.
